So you could try an initial unmodded run (except for the SS2Tool patchup, seriously, don't skip that), then a modded run so you can fully appreciate what the modders have done for the game. That all being said, SS2 is a relatively short game, but highly replayable. If you're interested in a more polished version of SS2, but one that's still fundamentally faithful to the vanilla game, you can try the System Shock 2 Community Patch (SCP).\ It is not a total conversion, a source port, a reimagining, or a remake. No surprise considering how small the dev team was and how quickly they put it all together. SCP is intended to serve as an unofficial patch for System Shock 2 that delivers an authentic but also highly polished gameplay experience, hopefully approximating the form SS2 would have taken if Irrational had had a few more months to work on it before release. Now, the vanilla game is perfectly playable. If you'd like the graphics looking a little less fuzzy, some recommended mods are listed here:\ These are unofficial patches with a very, very long changelist, including graphical upgrades, bug fixes, a replacement for old LGVID. For the best-functioning vanilla experience, you absolutely want to download and patch up with SS2Tool:\ Earlier today, DrK found something on a French forum: yesterday, 'Le Corbeau' posted two patches - one labeled 'System Shock 2.4', the other 'Thief 2 1.19'.
